Mozart : Piano Concertos 12, 11, 13
An old martial arts teacher often talked of the importance of "shoshinshu" that is, approaching things, especially things with which we may be previously familiar, with "a beginner's mind". That approach is bound to bring rewards here. This quintet version of Mozart concerti, much more familiar in their orchestral recordings, has a charm and a freshness which brings you to hear the piece anew, with an intimacy and clarity which is like a fresh breeze blowing through it. I don't find it rewarding to compare which is better, the orchestral version(s) or this quintet version (also by Mozart himself), they are different. Both have their rewards. This version: well played by nuanced musicians with good tempi and dynamics. Happy listening, it is Mozart after all.
