Resopal presents yet another brilliant audio journey -- this time by well respected german techno and house producer MRI. He runs Resopal / Red - the much admired imprint and label network and likes David Bowie. His third studio album „Heroes“ is a techno / house tour-de-force, bursting with energy, excitement, and invention. The fourteen tracks perfectly describe his 4/4 ethic - and are produced in an extremely individual style. Leading off with the rightfully anthemic aquamarine-coloured house sirens of „Pilgrimage“ before taking a detour through latin rhythm and melody influenced „Kantstrassenkasanova“ and „Twin peaks & machine guns“ sideshow psychedelica. When things get a little noir, MRI opens the slats on „Shaun“clattery venetian blinds, making way for „All loved up“ percussive, mid-day reverie house chords. All swirling dust motes and forgotten clocks ticking in the distance. „Rejam“ brings a momentary wake-up rave call with his rubbery bass wallop and quite open air vocal and then irreality descends again courtesy on „Caliphate“, delivering seductive of deepest, most gravity-free tracks . 'Son’s of the silent Age' is a straight dancefloor rocker with some truly mineral theremin and synth’s sounds What begins as mild static soon develops into cracking thunder and lightning. „Tanner“ remains at the frontier of MRI’s outer limits: bass-heavy basic channel influenced groove, followed by a house hit: „Filthy lesson“ – no more words necessary. Finally the album is closed with „Breathe“ a channelling piano track. Heroe’s is a moody album -- in a world where 200 dancefloor tracks are released every week -- contemplative, melancholic, angry, a little bitter at times, and also guardedly euphoric. Heroe’s is less about proposing a style or defining a genre than in wrapping its arms around a set of ideas and then to flow them out. We all need Heroe’s. A tangible time-capsule to collect and keep.
