For a very long time the very first artistical meeting between eminent Russian cellist Mstislav Rostropovich and the British composer and pianist Benjamin Britten has not been available, since the recording of their first concert in July 1961 at the "Aldeburgh Festival of Music and the Arts" circulated only on special editions. Rostropovich and Britten met to play a concert of music by Schubert and Debussy and to play Britten's Sonata for Cello and Piano, op. 65 for the first time - a work that Britten had dedicated to the great Russian artist. Out of this meeting a lifelong friendship between those two artists was born, and Britten dedicated several other works to Rostropovich in the future. So here it is back: a remarkable moment of music is back - now in the digital world: The meeting of two giants: Mstislav Rostropovich and Benjamin Britten!
