After many years of wanting to fit in and aim for perfection, I found that my music became dull. It lost its nerve and soul. And so did I. Now my aim is to portray my music, my thoughts, my life in an authentic way, even if it at times means ugly, dirty, dark or imperfect, for there...in the middle of dark and light, joy and sadness, beauty and ugly ... there life is. Real life. I wrote It was you, about how negative I was always talking to myself. I was the master of talking myself down even when others gave me praise. I realized that if I ever want to be happy and make my dreams come true I have to change the way I think. I have to think myself up, rather than down and love who I am. It all starts with me. I am responsible for my life, no one else. This is the message of the song.
