The great Russian piano school of the 20th Century has three real Titans: Sviatoslav Richter, Emil Gilels and Nikita Magaloff. While Gilels and Richter started their career in the former Soviet Union Magaloff grew up and was educated in Paris at the Conservatoire de Paris. He studied composition with Sergei Prokofjew and it is the outstanding fact on this album that we have recordings of the pupil playing the music of his teacher. Magaloffs interpretation of Prokofjew's ""Contes de la vieille grand mere"" is probably the most beautiful rendering of this piece available. It was composer Maurice Ravel who encouraged Magaloff to focus on 20th Century Music which he frequently did. This album recital includes the music of Prokofjew, Skriabin, Barber and Markevitch - an extraordinary combination rarely found nowadays. Magaloff's interpretation of each piece is breathtaking and therefore these first releases ever in digital form deserve a place in our Piano Masterpieces Collection.
