Last Kiss 2010 - Single
Last Kiss was written and first recorded by Wayne Cochran from Georgia. The song was first released on the small Gala label in Vidalia, Georgia in 1963. In 1964 the owner, George Perry, of Gala sold Wayne's contract to King Records. Wayne then re-recorded the song at King Records in Macon, Georgia with professional session players. Since King Records was a black soul oriented label they balked at distributing or advertising the record. Wayne then loaded up his trunk with 45's taking off across the country. He eventually ended up in West Texas dropping off copies to various radio stations. One station in Odessa added the record to their weekly challenge in which new releases competed against one another. One particular listener 40 miles away in Midland was an independent record producer named Sonley Roush. Sonley had been booking a 4 piece band from San Angelo by the name of The Cavaliers lead by guitarist Sid Holmes that featured vocalist J. Frank Wilson. When Last Kiss by Wayne Cochran continued to win the record challenge week after week Wayne got the idea of re-recording the song with J. Frank Wilson as the vocalist. The Cavaliers would then copy Wayne's musical arrangement adding J. Frank Wilson as the vocalist. When Guide released their Top 10 Teen Tragedy Song list in 2005 Last Kiss by The Cavaliers came out #1. Last Kiss 2010 features Rudy Mata (vocals), Gary Holmes (drums) Neil Sheckels (bass) & Sid Holmes (guitar). The idea for this particualr arrangement came from listening to a Foo Fighters LP.
