He then started listening to the music of pickers like Reverend Gary Davis, Lightnin’ Hopkins and Dave Van Ronk, adopting a similar passionate, troubadour approach to his own playing. Jack Kerouac & Bob Dylan’s poetry and verve as well as Phil Ochs infected and opened up a universe of songwriting possibilities that began a ceaseless flow of socially conscious Folk songs, Blues, Talking Blues and a response with poetry to the world he inhabits. This debut, independent release by the twenty year old Robert Hill; What Are We Waiting For, is a set of his most focused and intense material. Produced by (and guests) Brian Kramer, New York Blues Artist who upon first meeting Robert initially invited him to attend his popular Blues Jam sessions in Stockholm and witnessed his potential and immediacy emerge. This candid, brutally honest, naked approach has been captured in the recording studio, creating an intense document of Robert Hill’s current repertoire as well as a strong glimpse into what is certainly to come. Robert Hill is the first recipient of the Jenny Bohman “Blues For Life” Scholarship awarded to him in Sweden in 2011.
