But I Do
Doesn't every author/screenwriter collaborate with a composer on a pop/jazz song and make a music video for it?! Well, that's exactly what I did! After my travel book, The Single Girl's Guide to Meeting European Men, came out, articles written about me included personal details like that I grew up training at Pacific Northwest Ballet School and was on the dance/cheer team at Vanderbilt University. Then I received a flood of fan requests to make a dance video. At first, I pretended they didn’t exist. I hadn’t danced since college. Actually, I had hardly even worked out since then because I was so busy writing with three producers on different scripts and on my book. I survived the numerous all-nighters on the “Ben & Jerry’s Diet”—a minimum of three pints a week. But the dance video requests kept rolling in, so I finally caved. I paired up with composer Todd Schwartzman who has opened for the likes of Brad Paisley and David Archuleta to create But I Do, the theme song for both my book and music video. It's sassy, fun and sure to make you want to dance! With Amy Whitcomb–a popular lead soloist from NBC's The Sing-Off–as our vocalist, how could we go wrong? The inspiration for But I Do came from my book's theme and my several experiences at hosting university events as an author and Love and Romance expert for publications like Seventeen and Cosmopolitan magazines and talk shows like those on RT TV. At each event, girls confided that they felt like they had to look and act a certain way to attract guys. This troubled me since every girl has worth and appealing traits. I believe that what is most important in building genuine relationships is that she has confidence and is true to herself. This is the message of But I Do.
