Valerius has accomplished a lot in short time: a hit single, shows on the biggest platforms, support from different media and also a debut album that ranks high in the Dutch charts.   The ambitious brothers Jesse and Kay Nambiar early knew what they wanted to accomplish. When they were about twelve years old they started to sing and started to take guitar lessons. They searched for their own sound from a young beginning. Setting up a real band was just a matter of time and that band became Valerius. Named after the Valeriusplein (Valeriussquare) in Amsterdam, where they went to school and where they made their first rehearsal space. ''A cool period'', Kay remembers. ''We were young and we actually thought that we would capture the world.''   Six years ago their career started off fast when they came in touch with Reinder van Zalk, owner of the Earforce Studios in Amsterdam. The experienced producer helped the band to expand their recognizable sound. Earforce Studios would not only be their studio but would also end up being their management.   The brothers complete each other perfectly with their different musical preferences. Jesse prefers R&B, soul, Michael Jackson and John Mayer. Kay prefers listening to indie rock and mostly to Radiohead and Jeff Buckley. ''But we always end up finding each other through our own songs'', says Kay. ''Everything comes out perfectly. We are really a band full of songs.'' Anyone who would listen to their debut album, which recently came out, would confirm that.   With the soulful vocals from Jesse, the tasteful sound from Kay's guitar, the smooth rhythm from bassist Xander Vrienten and the drumming from college friend Georgy Patrick, the twelve songs will easily carry you away.   ''Pop with a little bit of rock'', that is how Kay defines it.   Although the brothers Nambiar do most of the writing, Kay says that it is indeed a real band.   Jesse and I put in most of the ideas, but when we really work it out with the band it becomes the songs that you're listing to.   They don't have to complain about the media attention. The famous Dutch radio station 3FM called Valerius the 'Serious Talent'. The band showed up at almost every Dutch radio- and TV station like Radio 538 and TMF.   Also magazines like the Hitkrant and Off The Record supported Valerius. With the help of MTV Europe they recorded their first music video for their catchy first single: She Doesn't Know, which became a summer hit in 2009.   They toured through Europe with the American band The Jones Brothers and also performed with Lifehouse. ''Both bands would like to perform with us again'', says Kay proudly. Looking back at all the adventures, the biggest thing he's pleased about is the debut album, which came out on March 26th.   ''It's the reward for all the hard work we've put in to the last one and a half year.'' The album received a positive response and ended up in the iTunes album top-10.   Also the release of the debut album was celebrated big. On the day of the release the band travelled through the country performing on a big Pepsi Monstertruck. They ended the day with an album presentation in a crowded hall. ''A very great day'', says Kay satisfied. There will be a lot more of these days. We're betting on that!   They aren't kids anymore, but they're still dreaming big. ''The most important thing we've learned throughout our performances, is that you really need to stay focused.
